Welcome!
The Savour Your Life Cafe’ has been created to help people — wherever we may be — to find things in our lives to savour. Let’s learn, share, connect, and savour together. 🙂

What does it mean to savour? It’s the experience we have when we truly notice the things around us, and find something in at least one of them to appreciate and enjoy. Something to see, or taste; a sound to hear, or something to feel. Something engages at least one of our senses. We allow it to make a lasting impression by embracing it with our mind.
Moments that are savoured tend to stay with us and to rekindle our feelings, perhaps though long passed, when they come to mind again. It could be a hug, a flower pressed in a favorite book, a scent of cologne, or of pines on a summer afternoon.
It could be a view from a mountaintop, shades of grasses rippling in a breeze across a hillside, the exhilaration of hiking at treeline, finding an unexpected meadow filled with wild iris, or sipping the best cup of coffee ever on a ferryboat ride.
It could be swimming in a natural pool beside a waterfall, the freedom of sailing, or racing across a lake on a motorboat.
It could be the soft, supple feel of a luxurious bath towel.
It could be a laugh, a look, or a quip from a child.
It could be the taste of a superb French toast.
It could be the song of a bird.
Perhaps even a dandelion smiling up at us from a crack in the sidewalk when we’re feeling down and looking at our shoes.
Or a conversation with a stranger in a cafe’.
Much of what is written on this website was inspired by finding serenity and peace-of-mind living simply, close to nature, in an off-the-grid experience captured in Summer of the Phoenix by PJ Paulson. It can be found on Amazon here.
Connect with someone, or with something
Hug your children. Tell your family you love them. Ask your friends how they’re doing. Pet the dog. Hold your cat. Feed the fish. Listen to the robin in the yard singing goodnight. Look at a sunset. Listen to birds singing at sunrise. There’s that one meadowlark whose song is a bit different from the others. You can identify that one by his song. Maybe you can catch a glimpse of him when he’s closer to the house. Pick up that smooth pebble on the beach and carry it home in your pocket; you’ll brush it off and set it on your desk later – where at another time it will bring back the scents and sounds of that morning on the beach.
Fully engage your senses
You know that moment when you walk into a kitchen or bakery and are greeted with the aroma of freshly-baked bread? That’s savouring.
It could be the laughter of a small child causing you to smile all the way up to your eyes, and for just that moment forgetting that anything else exists in the world.
Feel a moment
You work fulltime, and you’ve attended night school part-time for six years in order to earn your Bachelor’s degree. You’re filled with a sense of accomplishment. Of relief. And then the excitement – and newfound freedom – of realizing you’ll be filling your evenings with something new.
